Artist's Description
Ohio Veterans Home
Sandusky, Ohio
The home opened in 1888 to care for veterans of the Civil War, and has been in continuous operation since, formerly named Ohio Soldiers' and Sailors' Home. The home was created to provide for Ohio's indigent honorably discharged veterans of the American Civil War. In 1950, the institution also provided nursing home care for veterans.
There use to be several of these buildings on the property that actually housed the veterans, but due to expense in renovating them to keep them up to code, many of them have been removed and new buildings replaced..kinda sad to see the beautiful old mansions gone now.
About Mary Timman
I'm a retired Nurse and my husband is a retired Construction Supervisor. After retirement we worked as wedding photographers for a local Photographer and also photographed seniors and family portraits. My husband, Pat and I are part time Professional Photographers photographing mostly landscapes and fun portraits of the grandchildren, and my passion is old barns now as we are getting just a bit older. Can never seem to put the camera down no matter how old I get! I love to dabble in digital art and digital painting. I've done traditional painting, but found digital to be so much faster with no drying time or mess to clean up, although does take time and actually more difficult then traditional I believe. Brush work is so different...
